Primary School JETS Program

Primary School JETS Program

Junior Excellence Tuition at Scoresby (JET@S) is an exciting initiative for grade 4 and 5 students.  It is based on research into the relationship between student engagement and learning.  The program was first introduced in 2015 as part of the transformation of Scoresby Secondary College that has led to the development of partnerships with tertiary providers including Monash and Melbourne Universities and acknowledgement of the changes by many educational leaders.

What does the program offer?

Students will undertake a program that is based on extension through problem solving. The task will require students to creatively apply their mathematics, science and technology skills to solve an authentic problem. At the end of the program, parents and representatives from their schools will be invited to an evening for student presentations and awarding of certificates.

Dates of the program

JET@S program will run for six weeks in Term 4 on a Thursday after school on 10 October, 17 October, 24 October, 31 October, 7 November and 14 November. Each session will commence at 3:45pm and finish at 5:15pm

Benefits of participating

Universities and employers are now seeking a broad set of knowledge, skills, work habits, and character traits. These skill sets are critically important to success in today’s world, particularly in collegiate programs and contemporary careers and workplaces. They can also be applied in all academic subject areas, and in all educational, career, and civic settings throughout a student’s life. The JET@S program has therefore been developed to include:

  • critical and creative thinking
  • perseverance, planning, adaptability and initiative
  • oral and written communication, public speaking and presenting
  • teamwork, collaboration and cooperation
  • information and communication technology literacy, media and internet literacy
  • global awareness
  • scientific literacy and reasoning.
