International students

Scoresby Secondary College welcomes international students. We work closely with English language schools that provide intensive English language teaching until students are ready to learn with the other College students.
Scoresby Secondary College has dedicated staff to assist with enrolment, homestay accommodation and pastoral care. Students are supported by our highly experienced student services team including Head of Student Services, social worker, chaplain, psychologists, skilled first aid staff and the careers centre. A study area with teacher support is available after school in most subjects.

About the school

We are proud of our safe, secure and supportive culture. The school is walking distance to Knox City, a large modern shopping mall, and there is public transport from the school to all major areas. Other features of our College include:

Homework club

We provide a supervised study area to help international students after school from Monday to Thursday from 3:30-4:30.
A teacher is available to provide support and particular focus is given to the study of English. Students can ask questions about their school work. Individual work will be provided to support the students in all areas, including additional support in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Airport

Melbourne Airport is located to the north of the city and is easily accessed from Scoresby Secondary College by the freeway/tollway system. Alternatively, it can be accessed by taking a suburban train to Southern Cross station and the Skybus to the airport.

Homestay

International students live with a relative or in local homestay accommodation organised through the school. Most homestay providers live close to the college so that students can walk to school or take a short bus ride.
The College carefully selects homestay accommodation for students who do not have relatives in Melbourne and closely monitors the welfare of students during their stay with the Australian families.

Pre-departure

Students and families are provided with a welcome package containing essential documents which outline the school policies, homestay policy, cost of books and uniform, and information about living in Australia. These documents are designed to make the transition as smooth as possible. It allows communication to take place between students and the International Student Coordinator prior to arrival in Australia.

Airport Pickup

All students who require airport pick up will be met by the International Student Coordinator or delegate and taken to their homestay.

Compass Online Communication

Scoresby Secondary College uses a community portal known as ‘Compass’ as a primary means of communication between the school and home.

Assessment and Reporting

At Scoresby Secondary College, education is delivered by our dedicated and highly professional teaching staff. They support students to achieve academically, physically, socially and emotionally to support them to become lifelong learners that are confident and independent. To support students and their learning, the college produces semester reports that are released at the end of each semester.

Senior Certificates offered

Scoresby Secondary College offers studies in Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) as well as Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). Students may also elect to enrol into a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course as part of their VCE or VCAL. VET enrolments and certificates will be through a third party arrangement.

Languages other than English

At Scoresby Secondary College, international students may undertake Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) in their first language on Saturday mornings at one of the many campuses of the Victorian School of Languages, a school of the Victorian Government. Students may choose to study VCE Units 1 and 2 as a year 10 or 11 students, and Units 3 and 4 as a year 11 or 12 student.

Student obligations and entitlements

International students have education obligations and entitlements. They are documents by the International Education Division Standard Application Terms, Conditions and Policies

Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Third Party Providers

Scoresby Secondary College has an ability to offer a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) options through a variety of VET providers. Enrolment into these courses is through a third party provider arrangements. Students wishing to enrol into a VET course as part of their VCE/VCAL will do so through a third party arrangement. Students and/or families will need to communicate with the International Student Coordinator in finalising these arrangements.
