Junior School
Welcome to Year 7 and Year 8 at Scoresby Secondary College. We hope you enjoy your time at the school and make the most of the educational opportunities provided for you.
The College offers a high quality education program where all students have equal access to learning opportunities to develop knowledge and skills whilst catering for individual capabilities, interests, expectations and ambitions. The College also provides a supportive learning environment, to encourage students to accept challenges and recognize each other’s contribution and worth.
The subjects taught in the College are based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). VELS is a whole school curriculum planning framework from the Department of Education. It comprises of three interwoven purposes.
These are designed to equip students with the capacity to:
- manage themselves and their relations with others
- understand the world and
- act effectively in that world
to prepare them for success in education, work and life.
This is achieved through the tree core, interrelated strands.

Enrichment Program
Selected students will be invited to participate in the Enrichment program. These students will be withdrawn from two classes per week to take part in this challenging program. The focus of the program will be developing research, communication, analytical thinking and presentation skills in a team setting. Some of the tasks will involve the use of multi-media technologies.
Reading Enhancement
On the basis of recommendations from the Primary Schools and our own testing, a small group of students will be withdrawn for seven periods a fortnight for intensive reading practice. The focus of this program is to develop skills such as word attack, reading and comprehension.
| Curriculum
In Year 8, students continue their studies of all domains. Some subjects comprise of a full year course, while others are a term/semester length course. Students are also offered elective choices at Year 8.
