Information Technology

Technology is a rapidly growing and changing area within society. It is used for many different applications, and is a knowledge that is needed by every student.

At Scoresby Secondary College, our large Computer Laboratories use up to date IBM compatible computers. We also have computer pods located throughout the school for student use, which contain IBM compatible computers as well as Apple computers in the Media department.

The College Computer Policy endorses the use of different types of computers as this provides a wide range of software applications while providing students with a better knowledge of computer systems they are likely to encounter in their future career. The study of Information Technology helps students develop an understanding of the uses of computers in day to day life and career aspects. Students develop an understanding of how computers work, and the various programs that can be used to display information for many purposes.

Information Technology is studied from Year 7, and is an elective study in later years. Students are able to specialise in various areas such as programming, web design or hardware, and are able to follow the subject through to VCE level.

Each student is issued with individual logon details after signing a Computer Use Contract. This entitles the student access to the Internet as well as the College Intranet, and gives them a personal space to store files and school work on the network. A personal email address is issued for the retrieval of newsletters, school bulletins and subject assignments that may have been emailed to the student.
